Rug PricesOriental rugs imported by our company have been made in a traditional way - by hand. These artefacts often originate on the basis of the masters' fantasy only, with no drawings or designs being elaborated beforehand. The production of such rugs takes time in orders of months or even whole years. Their motifs and colours reflex the mentality, the history or the present life of the families that have manufactured them. Unfortunately, as a result of the absence of oriental rugs in the Czech and Slovak market during the last 50 years, oriental rugs are no more perceived as works of art, they have been degraded onto the level of machine-made floor coverings. You cannot talk about any uniformity with any work of art. Each hand-made rug or kelim is a unique original, which cannot be judged only on the basis of exact values such as size, density of knotting, weight, height of pile or number of used colours. A hand-made rug is to be perceived as a work of art, the value of which is also affected by such aspects as the idea or originality of the motif, asymmetry of the patterns, harmony of colour combinations, quality of used dyes, quality of wool and silk and their suitably chosen combination, symmetry of weave of the individual knots, ending of the weave, arrangement of the fringes, marking etc. The ability to judge these aspects is a result of many years' experience. Each rug is knotted in its unique way and thus the criteria for estimating individual rug types differ considerably. With a Tibetan rug, an expert appreciates other details than with a rug from Persia. The rugs shown at these Internet pages have already been sold and therefore it would be pointless to mention their particular prices, as they would be misleading. The rugs we will offer you at the actual moment will be of different qualities and thus their prices will differ, too. The depicted rugs represent some of the rug types we offer and thus may serve as an inspiration for your choice. Two rugs apparently identical at the first sight may frequently be of very different qualities. The differences are often distinct only to an expert's eye. Purchasing a hand-made rug has always been a matter of confidence between the customer and the dealer. We always try to make the value of the given rugs clear for the customer in a number of examples and then we leave the choice to their consideration. Please now let me invite you for a visit of any of our shops, where it will be our pleasure to tell you more about the prices of the rugs and kelims we offer. Dimensions and shapes of rugsThe Nomads, who lead a nomadic life throughout the whole Asia up to the present day, use their rugs for specific purposes. The rugs serve as horse saddles, they are used to cover entrances or floors of tents, the Nomads sleep and eat as well as pray on rugs, they are born on rugs and they are buried wrapped in rugs. Partly they do not have any need to knot large rugs and partly they even cannot do it, since they have actually no conditions for that. The dimensions of their rugs are usually smaller, only exceptionally you can see a nomadic rug being offered in a size of 3 x 4 meters or even larger. On the other hand, rugs knotted by villagers or manufactures are available in larger dimensions, too. Rugs with dimensions ranging from 60 x 90 cm up to 4 x 6 m are readily available on the market. The offer of larger rugs is not so large, for they are required by customers only exceptionally and the production of large size rugs is much more complicated. To start with, such knotting requires a large loom and wool, cotton or silk of extraordinary firmness. An important factor, let us say a condition, is a good financial background of the manufacturer, as knotting of large rugs takes even years and the investment return is a long-term one. These conditions are generally met by renowned manufactures only and the prices of such rugs are in considerably large figures The width of Nepal rugs is at present limited to 570 cm. The length is arbitrary. The basic shape is a rectangle. Rugs knotted in square, round or oval shapes are less in number; polygon shape rugs are an exception on the market. Most hand-made rugs are offered approximately in the following basic dimensions (cm):60 x 90 With rugs of runner shapes one should consider the fact that the narrower and the longer the rug is, the more likely is its curvature. From the technical point of view of manual production, it is a very difficult task to keep the longitudinal axis perfectly straight during the production of runners. Runners are generally offered in the following basic dimensions (cm): 80 x 200 |
