AgraOnce, during the reign of Akbars, it used to be the capital of the Persian Empire, which at that time reached from the Mediterranean sea as far as to Mongolia. The rug trade was flourishing. The first diminution came after the fall of the Mughal dynasty, the second one after the exodus of Muslims to Pakistan. Today, high quality rugs are knotted here, but there are only few masters in the country. -
