Although our firm was founded in the year 1993, the basic conditions for its emergence can be dated much farther back - to 1968. In this year, the owner of the firm, Mr. Peter Palacka, emigrated from then-occupied Czechoslovakia. On his travels, he met with primitive tribes of the Yucatan, happily living in the Stone Age, encountered the majestic tranquillity of the polar night in Alaska, and when he became acquainted with Japanese Buddhists in the Hawai'ian islands, he soon became aware that fate had set him on the path of searching for inner peace. During meditation, he learned from Tibetan monks to recognise the symbols of Buddhist philosophy and their interpretation, gained a knowledge of the philosophies of other nations of the East, and later became acquainted with the world of Islam.

This knowledge did not only change his way of life, but in the course of years allowed him to make a career in trading in Oriental carpets. He understands their symbolism, he know what the individual carpets express. Mutual trust with friends throughout Asia enables him to make advantageous deals. Mr. Palacka selects all his carpets in person, in some cases in the company of his wife, or at other times with the aid of his son Michal Palacka, who is the manager of the Prague sales outlet and has a current sense of what will most interest his customers.

Travel in Asia is demanding. Frequently, we arrive in locations where the ways of life have not changed in perhaps a thousand years, where hygienic and dietary customs are radically different from what we are accustomed to. The demands of these travels, knowledge of local customs of concluding deals, familiarity with the symbolism and significance of true hand-woven, particularly Persian, carpets - all have led us to remaining a family firm without outside employees. All of us are, equally, motivated in our desire for our firm to enjoy the favour of customers in generations still to come, and hence we place an exceptional emphasis on correctness and honesty in our commercial dealings.

We have two showrooms - a smaller one in Brno, and in Prague, the largest enterprise of its kind in central Europe. Nonetheless, the majority of our sales are concluded outside the sales room. Each of our carpets is an original artistic work, each is something specific, the price is always fitted to the quality, and - what is of particular importance - these are carpets for several generations; hence the decision of which carpet to select from our rich palette of offers, is best taken in the interior where the carpet is to be placed. Still, it is necessary first of all to visit one of our sales rooms with a relatively concrete sense of the dimensions which will be necessary, to make a somewhat wider selection of possible carpets, and agree on a trial at a suitable time. It should be a time when there is sufficient time for reflection, re-arranging of furniture, and trying different variants, so as to be satisfied with the decision for several future decades. Often, we visit our customers on Saturday afternoon, when the entire family tends to be at home and thus all can express their opinions. For some carpets, it is necessary to perform tests in both daylight as well as under artificial lighting, in some instances a great many carpets are to be tried, or else a customer wishes to have an architect present, and for these reasons we may leave carpets with the customer during the entire weekend.

With our carpets, we have assisted in creating harmonic environments in thousands of interiors, from the most modest to the most demanding, and thanks to this experience, we are capable of providing advice in the selection. And by this we mean actually to provide advice, not to convince. Each of us has his or her personal standards of beauty, and after the presentation of several appropriate variations, the final decision remains that of the customer, because however he decides, from his point of view it will be correct: the interior with the carpet chosen is where the customer will live, and thus the harmony and beauty of the room's furnishings must match his or her tastes, and not those of the salesperson or architect. They themselves only have the voice of advisors. Trial of carpets is, of course, free of charge; by agreement, we may undertake it anywhere in the Czech Republic, and for large orders even abroad. As for the interiors visited, we maintain absolute confidentiality: for use, the privacy of our customers is sacred.
