BakhtiariMessages of Arabian merchants about remarkable rugs in the area of the small kingdom of Baktiars have been preserved from the 12th-15th centuries, when the kingdom was governed by the Fasluyeh Dynasty. Time and desert sand have covered up a lot, but the art of rug knotting lives in this region of southern Iran up to the present day. -
BakhtiariThe Bakhtiar rugs are called "kishti" - "coffer rugs" in the Czahar Mahal area, where they are made by the villagers. Elsewhere they are called the "garden rugs", as their individual fields resemble separate small gardens. They who are acquainted with the irrigation system in the steppe of Iranian villagers will admit a certain similarity. -
BakhtiariThis Bakhtiar motif has been used in the area perhaps since the 18th century and it is peculiar to the region. Hence the name Bakhtiar recalls its origin even though it is also knotted by the tribes of Lurs, Kurds and Armenians who have settled here. -
